Performance Claim

Electro Lube® anti-stick solution is designed to reduce charring and tissue sticking on the cautery tip. Electro Lube® anti-stick solution has been found by doctors to reduce the bio-burden build up on the instruments, thus making them easier to clean at the end of the case. doctors have stated "it is time beneficial,since we do not have to stop and remove instruments and continually clean them". Studies conducted in Adenoidectomy and Tonsillectomy procedures have shown Electro Lube® anti-stick solution to reduce surgery time. Studies have also shown decreases in the number of handbacks per operation.

Electro Lube® anti-stick solution is a mixture of natural, non-synthetic, non-flammable, non-allergenic bio-compatible phospholipids having no known side effects to the patient.

Electro Lube® anti-stick solution is a radiation-sterilized product intended for single patient use.

The results of our study confirmed our anecdotal experience that coating the suction cautery tip with the [Electro Lube®] antistick solution decreases how often the instrument requires cleaning. We hypothesized that the shorter amount of operative time seen in the [Electro Lube®] group was the direct result of the reduction in time spent cleaning the instrument.

I have used Electro Lube during my robotic surgery cases and have found this compound to work exceptionally well. This material helps cut down on the char that occurs during surgery and makes the surgery much easier to perform. At the present time I use this on all of my robotic laparoscopic prostatectomy's and pyeloplasty's and plan to continue using it in the future. A fellow colleague gave me a sample of some gel that can be applied to instruments to decrease bioburden buildup during surgical procedures, especially instruments used for cautery. We tried it out on our da Vinci® robot instruments and were thrilled with how well it worked. Not only did it keep the bioburden from building up on the instruments but also they were easier to clean at the end of the case.

We use the product Electro Lube made by Mectra Labs, Inc. for our robotically assisted laparoscopic cases. The instruments for the da Vinci® System are not Teflon coated and tissues tend to adhere to the instrument jaws. The Electro Lube reduces tissue sticking to the tips and greatly reduces charring of the cautery tips. It has been very time beneficial since we do not have to stop and remove instruments and continually clean them. We use it on all robotic cases where we will be cauterizing a lot of tissue (i.e. retropubic prostatectomies, laparoscopic nissen fundoplications, laparoscopic colectomies). Both surgeons and operating room staff find the product very beneficial.
